Austin Quiltfest Coming in September, 2016
I had signed up to “hawk my wares” at the Old Bakery and Emporium as part of the Art Fair this summer but I wasn’t having much luck. On my last day, and feeling a little discouraged, I almost called and cancelled. But I remembered the cute little book “Steal Like An Artist” by Austin Kleon and how it said you should just share your art and not be afraid. So I gathered everything up and just went out to share.
That day Cheryl Degan, co-chair of the Austin Quilt Guild, walked by the booth and later wrote to me inviting me to come and join the Austin Area Quilt Guild. She gave me some wonderful compliments and suggested I enter some pieces for judging at the upcoming Quiltfest. That was just the encouragement I needed.
I enjoyed my first meeting last night and was surprised by the healthy number of attendees. It seems a very healthy guild with lots of experience and depth.
I have decided to enter two small quilts in the art and applique categories at the 2016 Austin Quiltfest.
The Austin Quiltfest will be open to the public in September 16-17 and by then the judging will have been completed. It will be more of a learning experience for me this year and depending, I can gear up for next year. It will be some exposure for me too and hopefully a little recognition. We’ll see.Wish me luck!
